The ILM 606v is an aggressive-looking entry-level helmet with an incredibly reasonable price. It’s a helmet that might not give you the same performance as the Best Motorcycle Helmet but at the price this helmet comes, it’s good enough. At least you are getting a DOT approved helmet out of a price that is very much less than an average ADV helmet out there.
There’s actually another helmet with almost the same price point, that is the 1Storm Hf802. Both that helmet and this ILM helmet are extreme budget helmet but comes with the basic features that you might need on an adventure ride.
So, let’s spill the beans with you right away about this ILM 606v dual-sport helmet.

ILM 606v Dual Sport Helmet Review
Structure and Design
Well, this is an adventure helmet, and it looks exactly how a typical dual-sport helmet should look. Aggressive looks, peak on the top, and the chin area is long and narrow like a Motocross helmet. And a face shield that is good enough for you to ride on the street without too much hassle.
The peak of this ILM dual-sport helmet is easily removable. You’ll only need a screwdriver or a coin will also do the job. This is something that comes in handy and the metal screws make sure that it keeps sturdy and lasts long. The peak isn’t an adjustable one, that’s expected at this piece point, I guess. But you can get the adjustable peak featured helmets if you go a little further with the money, such as AFX FX-41 DS.
You’ll find air channels on the peak, which will reduce the lift somewhat when you ride at speed. The aerodynamics of this budget helmet won’t be as good as the premium ADV helmets like Shoei Hornet X2 though.
Ventilation
Ventilation, a feature that you’ll need on the roads and trails exploring on an adventure tour. As a dual-sport helmet, you might also use this helmet on a dirt bike ride. So, make sure the ventilation structure of the helmet is good enough, not only for this particular one but for any other helmet you get.
This ILM 606v helmet got a chin vent and top intake vents to take in a large amount of airflow. And the vents here are active, they can be controlled by the One-Touch sliders. You can control if you want the air inside the helmet or not, this might help in the winter or whenever you feel like it.
And there are also exhaust vents at the back of the helmet that pulls out the air from inside and keep the interior cool and comfy. The ventilation is good enough but it’s a budget helmet you know. You’ll find some good helmets with a pretty decent ventilation structure if you go up with the price a little bit. Take Fly Racing Dirt Trekker and HJC DS-X1 for example.
Safety Measurements
Why do you bother to wear a helmet all the time you ride a motorcycle? Well, it’s to keep your head safe and sound on the road, even if you happen to face an accident, hypothetically. So, one thing you always have to make sure that the helmet you are wearing or spending your money on is safe enough to do that.
Well, this budget ILM helmet comes with an Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene or ABS Shell, which is good enough for the price. The shell material is obviously not the best out there but it’s not too shabby. So many other budget helmet comes with the same or nearby build material, take O’Neal Sierra II for an example.
Despite being an extreme budget helmet, this ILM 606v is a DOT certified helmet. That means this helmet acquired the minimum US road safety requirements.
You can follow this post. That is from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
However, I would recommend you to spend a few more bucks and get a better and safer helmet such as the Bell MX-9. And, for this budget helmet, I’ll say, it’s good enough according to the price at least.
Face Shield or Visor
Face Shield, this is where these dual-sport helmets truly shine. These helmets have a large viewpoint, this allows the user to wear goggles for motocross riding. And also as a low-profile full-face helmet where this viewport will give you a larger field of view improving the overall visibility.
And the face shield of this helmet itself is a clear one, which is pretty much expected from an entry-level helmet. Unlike the NENKI NK-310 that comes with a glossy red mirror face shield out of the box.
Anyway, the face shield this ILM helmet comes with is what they call an HD wide-angle lens, they say it increases the vision.
But it is reportedly complaint by the users that the face shield interrupts visibility, creates distortion, which isn’t so good.
Yet again, it reminds you, it’s a budget helmet or a super budget helmet.
Another thing this helmet amazes us is it comes with a tinted integrated sun visor. Given the price point, it’s really great to have an inner SV. And this can be controlled with a slider on the left-hand side of the helmet, just over the peak.
Interior and Size
For a motorcycle ride to be enjoyable the interior of the helmet needs to be comfortable. And for a budget helmet to be comfortable, the fitting of the helmet needs to be picture perfect. Or you might end up with a helmet that you don’t want to use for a second time.
The interior of this particular helmet seemed pretty nice and good enough for an entry-level helmet at least. If you get your perfect sized one, you can use this helmet without any discomfort. However, don’t expect it to be as good as the premium Arai XD4 though, that’s a top-notch helmet.
For the sizing of this ILM 606v helmet, this helmet comes from Small (55-56 cm) to XX-Large (63-64 cm) sizes. One good thing about the ILM company is they are actually responsive to the customer’s request. So, if you somehow end up with an unfit helmet, they will send additional pads, which will hopefully solve the problem.
Pros
- Great value for the money
- Attractive and aggressive styling
- Easily removable peak
- Tinted inner sun visor included
- Active vents
- Responsive customer service
- DOT approved
Cons
- Not so great build quality
- Not so good face shield
- Ventilation might be an issue
Conclusion
Well, overall, this ILM 606v is a nice budget adventure helmet. It’s very affordable, got the minimum safety standard good enough for both on-road and dirt bike riding. what else do you need out of a budget entry-level dual-sport helmet?
Although, this helmet might not give you the same performance as some of the helmets with a bit higher price. But this helmet sure made it all the way to the best budget dual-sport helmet with a bunch of useful features at a really affordable price.
If you are looking for something like this helmet, you might also be interested in some of the other helmets. Such as AFX FX-41 DS, LS2 Helmets Blaze, or AHR H-VEN30.
